Our Basic IV Insertion Training is a hands-on educational experience designed for healthcare professionals seeking to develop or strengthen their peripheral IV insertion skills.
Led by a board-certified vascular access nurse, this training combines essential theory, vascular anatomy, patient assessment, infection prevention, and practical simulation to help participants develop safe insertion techniques and greater clinical confidence.

What You'll Learn
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Identify essential peripheral venous anatomy and appropriate vein-selection criteria.

Demonstrate patient assessment and preparation for peripheral IV insertion.

Select and assemble appropriate IV catheters, equipment, and supplies.

Apply infection prevention principles and aseptic non-touch technique (ANTT).

Perform simulated peripheral IV insertion, catheter securement, and flushing.

Identify common insertion complications and appropriate troubleshooting measures.

Describe proper documentation practices and patient education.
Your 3-Hour Training Itinerary
0:00–0:10 Welcome & Introductions — Course objectives and participant experience assessment
0:10–0:30 Module 1: Vascular Anatomy & Vein Assessment — Peripheral veins, patient factors, and vein selection
0:30–0:50 Module 2: Equipment & Supplies — Catheter types, gauges, tourniquets, flushes, dressings, and securement
0:50–1:10 Module 3: Aseptic Technique & IV Preparation — Hand hygiene, PPE, ANTT, skin antisepsis, and instructor demonstration
1:10–1:20 Break
1:20–2:30 Module 4: Hands-On IV Insertion Skills Lab — Supervised simulation, catheter advancement, securement, flushing, and individualized feedback
2:30–2:45 Module 5: Troubleshooting & Complications — Infiltration, hematoma, phlebitis, unsuccessful attempts, and escalation
2:45–2:55 Module 6: Documentation & Patient Education — Charting essentials, catheter care, and patient teaching
2:55–3:00 Course Wrap-Up — Questions, skills feedback, and evaluation
